Bridge Collapse

Dr. Piper has some words for those who have been impacted by the bridge collapse in Minneapolis yesterday. There has also been a video put together of the recovery effort with Piper's sermon Where is God? It is worth watching even if you have stumbled upon this blog from the other side of the world, and more so, to hear what the good news of Jesus Christ brings in times of tragedy.

Quotable

Two quotes today:

It is no proof of our conversion that we always worship in a place where there is a crowd.

J.C. Ryle, Mark.

Theology, if true to its own nature, must be missiological in its intent.

David F. Wells, Above All Earthly Pow'rs.

The Soundtrack

I spent the day, and I mean, the whole day in the car driving the 11 hours home to Tulsa to spend a couple weeks with my dog family before school starts. Here's a taste of what I listened to:

The Old:

Sufjan Stevens, Avalanche-- I can't stop listening to it.

Andrew Bird, Armchair Apocrapha

The New:

Spoon, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga-- Great new CD.

Wilco, Sky Blue Sky-- Freakin' Phenomenal!

Chicago Churches

One of my desires before I leave this great city fondly referred to as "The Chi" is to get out and take some shots of the churches here. A lot of them have been around for a long time and other's are just on the interesting side. But thankfully, if I don't get around to doing that, then I already have a book full of the pics that I never got! Borders, at least this location, currently has Chicago Churches: A Photographic Essay, by Elizabeth Johnson, on sale for $3.99. Granted, all the photos are not what I would define as churches, but rather "formalized" places of worship. Even so, it's a well put together photo essay that regularly runs at $45. So if you've ever wanted a coffee table book at less than 10% of the regular price, including tax, why don't you head on over to your local Borders.

Photo Friday

A week and a half ago now, I went out to Lake Michigan-- which I keep typing "Michicago," which should be acceptable-- and got some photos taken. Here's some of the seagull that thought I had something to eat.
